King County, WA: All In-Person Criminal Trials Suspended Until 01/14/2022!

The King County Superior Court has issued an order suspending all in-person criminal trials, effective 12/29/2021 through 01/14/2022.

Emergency Order 34 – Suspension of In-Person Criminal Trials for Two Weeks

Yesterday, King County Superior Court entered Emergency Order 34, in effect December 28, 2021 through January 14, 2022,  which orders:  Effective immediately all new in-person criminal trials (not hearings, only trials) are suspended for two weeks until the close of business January 14, 2022.

• The court may extend this order beyond January 14^th if needed based on re-evaluation in early January.

Emergency Order 33 regarding all civil trials being virtual, with discretion to the judicial officers, remains in effect and is not impacted by this new emergency order.

In response to the ongoing public health emergency in Washington State and more specifically, the emergence of the Omicron Variant of Covid-19 in King County, new Emergency Order 34 will reduce in-person court appearances by suspending in-person criminal trials for a two week period.  Virtual civil trials will continue to take place as outlined in Emergency order 33.
