Court Coverage

How far back into time does a name search go if you don't specify start and end dates?

Each Superior and District/Municipal court in Washington started providing electronic records at different dates over the last thirty years.

Some court records go back to the late 1970s --Yakima and King county for example. Other courts just recently started participating, for example Electric City Municipal Court records are only available back to October, 2002.

A full list of all the courts' start dates is available by clicking on the Courts link at the top of the CourtTrax search form.

The Courts Information page also describes the Superior and District/Municipal levels of courts, the hours of operation, the types of cases tried in the court, and the monetary limits for cases handled by the court.

Create unique titles for your search reports

You have probably noticed that the report titles generated by CourtTrax always contain the same information -- the search name or case number and the target court for the search.

But sometimes you might want to add your own title for tracking purposes. For example, say you want to run the same name search twice, first with a middle initial and then without it. You could give each of these a unique title, up to 60 characters long, so you can tell them apart in your Saved Search list. Just use the Search Title field at the top of the form.

We've found users often overlook this feature, so next time you run a search, give it a try!

The Federal Courts are coming!

We're busy putting together access to the Federal District and Bankruptcy courts for Western and Eastern Districts of Washington State. Our first release will support name and case number searches, similar to our current service for Washington State superior courts. We'll be rolling out Federal Courts service nationwide in the coming months.

We're actively looking for Early Adopters interested in participating in our Early Release Group. These users will get the first look at our service and have input on forms and how reports will work in production. Give us a call at 425-643-7077 if you're interested!
